A flurry of new tipjars

The recent attention by our tipjar for Wikileaks got a lot of interesting new tipjars signed up into the system:

ArrestBlair is the tipjar for the campaign at ArrestBlair.org to make a citizen’s arrest of Tony Blair for the alleged crimes against peace he has committed (see also: Removing Immunity).

There are several tipjars dedicated to donating to the Haiti relieve effort such as: DonateForHaiti.org and another for French Unicef.

A citizen journalist in Greece ‘teacherdude’ has lost his equipment and has setup a tipjar to raise money to replace his gear.

And we also got the Dutch life hacking community with stalwart Martijn Aslander on board with tipjars for various community sponsored initiatives.

And those are just a few of the tipjars. We’ll be building better functionality to explore the activity on the site in the future. In the mean time, keep tipping!

I’d like to tip a favourite blogger of mine. I was wondering, if I set up a tipjar for the domain name of his blog, does he get informed automatically about it? And how complex is it for him to claim? Would it be better if I simply suggested he set one up himself?

Thanks for keeping this wonderful service running. You should make your own tipjar more prominent! A suggestion: each time someone makes a tip, suggest that they add a few pence/cents as a tip for Tipit. Then they can make a tiny tip because it is processed together with the larger tip that they were already making.

You could do either. If you setup a tipjar for his domain, we send an e-mail to info@domain but that could easily get lost, so you’d best let them know you made a tip. They could setup one themselves which is even easier, it just reverses the sequence of events (tip tipjar creation).

We choose to make the experience for the tipper as simple as possible and therefore we put the donation to TipiT with the tipjar owners (the ones who benefit most of our efforts). If you wish to donate to us, that is always possible, our tipjar is at: http://tipit.to/tipit.to (and I see you already did :)
